The Parahyangan Center for International Studies (PACIS) at Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) held an international seminar entitled “Understanding European Culture Through History: Lessons Learned from Czech: Half-forgotten Globetrotter Bohumil Pospisi” as part of efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and enrich the study of international relations, particularly in understanding the dynamics of European culture and history through a historical perspective.
This seminar featured Dr. Martin Nekola, Ph.D., a political scientist and historian from Prague, Czech Republic, who discussed the historical experiences of Central Europe with an emphasis on the travel documentation of Bohumil Pospisil (1902–1974), a Czech explorer during the interwar period. Drawing on Pospisil’s travel notes and visual archives from his travels across various parts of the world, including Indonesia, this seminar examined how cross-cultural interactions and colonial contexts have shaped relations between Europe and Asia to this day.
The discussion was enriched by speakers Irwan Iskandar, S.IP., MA. (University of Riau) and Yuliana Maria Mediatrix, S.IP., M.Sos. (Parahyangan Catholic University), and moderated by Ignasius Loyola Adhi Bhaskara, S.I.P., MPACS. (Parahyangan Catholic University).
This event was held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Audiovisual FISIP UNPAR and was attended by around 100 participants. The seminar could also be attended online. Those interested in attending were asked to register to obtain the seminar Zoom link.
