Training and Healthy Demonstration Plot Encourage Community-Based Healthy Food in Batujajar

Batujajar, West Bandung Regency — Batujajar Sub-district, in collaboration with the Citarum Harum Community Service (Abdimas) team from Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR), held a Training and Healthy Demonstration Plot (Demplot) activity on August 30, 2025. The event took place at the Batujajar Sub-district Office and continued with field practice at the demplot site nearby.

Present at the event were the representative of the Batujajar Sub-district Head, Mr. Deden Mulyadi, S.Sos., M.M., namely Mr. Dadang Hadisurya, S.STP, Head of Community Empowerment Division; Batujajar Police Chief, Commissioner Caca Supriatna; Batujajar Military Commander, Captain Inf. Endang; Head of Batujajar Timur Village, Mr. Mochtar; as well as UNPAR’s Abdimas team representative, Dr. I Nyoman Sudira from the International Relations Study Program. In his remarks, Dr. I Nyoman Sudira emphasized that this activity is a tangible contribution to higher education institutions’ support of government programs, particularly in strengthening environmental awareness and promoting community-based healthy food. He also highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration among local government, authorities, academia, and the community in creating sustainable lifestyles.

The program included a “Healthy Agriculture and Food” presentation and a practical demonstration on “Instant Waste-Based Planting” delivered by Yuliana Maria Mediatrix, S.IP., M.Sos. Participants learned about healthy agriculture utilizing organic waste in this session and directly applied the method at the demonstration plot site. The training was conducted in an interactive and enthusiastic atmosphere. Participants gained theoretical insights and practical skills that can be applied in their environments to promote healthy food practices while reducing household waste. This activity was fully supported by the community service team from UNPAR’s International Relations Study Program, consisting of Prof. Sukawarsini Djelantik, Dr. I Nyoman Sudira, Yuliana Maria Mediatrix, M.Sos., Maria Alpha Carmelite, M.Hub.Int., and Annisa Paramita Wiharani, M.A.

As the closing session, participants and the Abdimas team moved to the practice site nearby the Batujajar Sub-district Office. The field activity was guided by Healthy Harvest Indonesia Producers Cooperative, where participants directly planted several types of crops using organic waste. The spirit of togetherness was further strengthened as the event concluded with a communal lunch, fostering closer ties between academia, authorities, and the community in the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation).


Through this activity, the UNPAR Abdimas team expressed hope that community-based healthy agriculture practices would continue to develop as a catalyst for real societal change. The training and demplot practice outcomes are expected to serve as a model for sustainable lifestyles, built on synergy between local government, authorities, academia, and residents, to realize a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment in Batujajar and its surrounding areas.
