Strengthening Academic and Research Collaboration between Unpar and the University of Leeds

Strengthening cooperation with leading university partners abroad is a strategy that Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) continues to pursue. With this collaboration, the quality of education, research and community service within Unpar will increase.

On September 16 2025, Unpar’s international office held a discussion with representatives of the University of Leeds, England in order to strengthen cooperation that has been established since 1998. In this discussion, collaborative initiatives were explored for developing international class programs, joint research and publications, organizing joint lectures, as well as other potential collaborations.

Present at the discussion in Jakarta were Dr. Geoff Goodwin and Dr Yen Nee Wong represented the University of Leeds and Stanislaus Risadi Apresian (Deputy Dean of FISIP Unpar), Albert Triwibowo (Chair of the International Relations Study Program), Jeremia Gom Gom Parulian Simanjuntak (Chair of the Public Administration Study Program) and Yulius P Hermawan (Chair of the Parahyangan Center for International Studies), and Annisa Wiharani who represented Unpar’s international office.

Dr Geoff Goodwin, is a lecturer in Global Political Economy who has expertise in the field of water; land; environment; (de) commodification; infrastructure; political economy; (post) capitalism; Karl Polanyi. Currently Geoff Goodwin is Co-Director – Center for Global Development and Deputy Director – Internationalisation.

Dr Yen Nee Wong is a lecturer and feminist researcher in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy who has research interests related to media and culture, gender, sexuality, sociology of the body, queer theory, sociology of dance, online harms and citizens’ attitudes towards AI technology.

In the discussion, each of them also shared experiences regarding research activities, teaching and thoughts related to socio-cultural issues. Sharing experiences and thoughts enriches the perspective on how the two educational institutions can continue to contribute to a more humane global civilization while still considering local wisdom.
